Summary

A New York Times bestseller

She created the soundtrack of our lives. Now, at last, she tells the stories behind the music. Here is the long-awaited memoir from one of the world's most acclaimed musical talents—Carole King. From her beginnings as a teenage songwriter who hid from the spotlight to her first time timidly singing lead in front of an audience to her present-day status as a consummate pro performing her beloved songs in front of thousands, King chronicles her extraordinary career, taking listeners deep into the world of music from the 1960s through today. Woven throughout are King's deeply personal and revealing descriptions of her childhood in Brooklyn, her experience as a young bride and then a young mother, her subsequent moves all over the country, and the relationships with men and fellow musicians that shaped who she is and why she is the artist, mother, and woman she is today.

Enthralling and insightful, A Natural Woman is truly a front-row seat to the woman behind the legend.

Editorial Reviews

“Intelligent, honest, self-effacing, well-written.” Independent (London)
“In her fascinating memoir, singer/songwriter Carole King chronicles her life story. And while she’s seen her share of sorrows—parents’ divorce, brother’s institutionalization, four marriages, one physically abusive husband—most of King’s life has been blessed… King narrates (and sings) her memoir—as much a history of rock ’n’ roll as of her own life—and once she begins telling her exciting, tumultuous story, it’s hard to stop listening…She proves an excellent storyteller.” Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Singer, songwriter, actress, and writer Carole King shares her varied life experiences using a conversational, highly personal style…A Natural Woman is liberally peppered with a cascade of a cappella breaks into song, making the audiobook even more of a treasure.” AudioFile
“An acclaimed singer-songwriter invites fans into her personal life…A warm, winning read that showcases baby-boomer culture at its best.” Kirkus Reviews

King, in addition to writing more than one hundred top-selling songs, has recorded twenty-five solo albums.
