Summary

Summary

When the body of a boy from one of Greece's most prominent families turns up in a dumpster in one of Athens' worst neighborhoods, Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis of the Greek Police's Special Crimes Division is certain there's a message in the murder. But who sent it, and why?

Kaldis' politically incorrect search for answers takes him deep into the sordid, criminal side of Athens and its nightlife and on to the glittering society world of Athens where age-old frictions between new money and old breed jealousy, murder, revenge, revolutionaries, and some very dangerous truths.

Jeffrey Siger combines his unique perspective and insider-like knowledge of Greece to create a highly entertaining yet thought provoking novel—for Assassins of Athens is a Greek tragedy of another sort.

Editorial Reviews

Editorial Reviews

“Jeffrey Siger’s Assassins of Athens is a teasingly complex and suspenseful thriller set in a place where history—ancient or recent—can be a motive for murder. Siger and his protagonist, Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis, are getting sharper and surer with each case.” Thomas Perry, New York Times bestselling author
“[A] suspenseful trip through the rarely seen darker strata of complex, contemporary Greece.” Publishers Weekly
“As the noose of the conspiracy tightens, Rudnicki emphasizes the tension felt by the victims, their families, and the police. Jeffrey Siger’s eye for detail and Rudnicki’s commanding narration keep listeners fascinated.” AudioFile
“Siger creates a heady mix of Greek politics and culture, drawing on the ancient practice of banishment, the country’s student revolutionaries, and its notoriously corrupt officials…This is international police procedural writing at its best.” Booklist (starred review)
“This audiobook will appeal to young adults and adults alike, to anyone who likes suspense in an exotic locale, a fast-paced mystery with many unexpected twists and turns, and who enjoys matching wits with the detective in charge.” SoundCommentary.com
