Summary

A New York Times Book Review pick of Best New Books in Audio

A timely collection of deeply personal, uplifting, and powerful essays that celebrate the redemptive strength of Black joy—in the vein of Black Girls Rock, You Are Your Best Thing, and I Really Needed This Today.

When Tracey Michae’l Lewis-Giggetts published a piece in The Washington Post on Black joy, she had no idea that it would resonate with countless people across the United States. As a professor of English and Black studies, she is well aware that Black joy can be a tool of resistance and resilience. And today, more than ever, it must be recognized as a means of personal and collective healing.

Now, Lewis-Giggetts expands on this concept with an inspirational collection of essays and stories that will recharge and invigorate you. Rich and healing, Black Joy is the perfect gift to share with loved ones and a liberating way to restore your spirit.

“Expanding on the author’s June 2020 article about the personal and political power of laughing with her daughter, these thirty-six essays counter the narrative that Black life consists only of struggle and trauma.” New York Times Book Review
