Summary

What does it mean to live fully―with joy and sorrow, love and loss, triumph and suffering―held together in Christ?

In Can You Drink the Cup?, internationally acclaimed spiritual writer Henri J. M. Nouwen (1932–1996)―priest, professor, and pastor to countless seekers―offers a moving reflection on Jesus's question to his disciples: "Can you drink the cup I am about to drink?" With striking simplicity and profound insight, Nouwen reveals how the image of the cup can transform the way you see your life and your faith.

Drawing on his experiences teaching at Harvard and Yale, serving as chaplain to those with disabilities, and guiding audiences through more than forty classic books, Nouwen speaks with the rare blend of intellectual depth and pastoral warmth that made him one of the most beloved spiritual voices of our time.

This powerful book will help you:

  • Recognize your own life―its beauty and its brokenness―as held in God's love.
  • Experience how sharing Christ's cup draws us into deeper union with him and one another.
  • Discover the courage to surrender your life fully into God's hands.
