One for the Books

Summary

When the owner of a charming bookshop has her most treasured family heirloom seized by the king, she teams up with a lovable local thief to get it back. Together, they assemble a crew of misfits to pull off the ultimate palace heist. Perfect for fans of This Will Be Fun and The Spellshop.

Eldest daughter Portia Ferrigan has run her family’s beloved bookshop since her parents left it in her care. Though the job is tough, Portia has a plan to turn things around for the struggling business.

But her world is flipped upside down when royal tribute collectors seize the key to her plan: a valuable edition of her great-grandmother’s famous storybook, taken as payment for the soon-to-be-crowned King Jaxtian.

Heartbroken and desperate, Portia finds an unlikely ally in Theo, a charming petty thief with a secret interest in vigilante justice—and a not-so-secret interest in beautiful booksellers. His solution? Steal the book back.

To pull off the heist, they’ll need a crew:

• Isabelle: The mastermind. Theo’s cousin, retired from thieving after getting cursed from a job gone wrong.
• Basil: The muscle. A personable tavern owner who must recover her stolen necklace before the entire city pays the price.
• Ren: The mage. The eighth son of a seventh son skilled in magical objects and self-deprecation.

Together, this ragtag team sets their sights on the palace of King Jaxtian, planning to strike during the chaos of his coronation and take back what’s rightfully (and not so rightfully) theirs.

With shenanigans, some skill, and a whole lot of luck, Portia, Theo, and their misfit crew promise to delight fans of D&D and cozy fantasy romance alike.
