Summary

Summary

From the acclaimed author of The Pursuit of Alice Thrift comes a delightful collection of short stories populated by sweet, complex people in unusual relationships. Gentle Tim falls madly in love with unwed Hannah, who is in the ninth month of her pregnancy; sad Clair at last finds her true love only to break up with him because she senses her parents' disapproval of his low status as a supermarket produce man; Martha and Carl tenderly, tentatively exchange love and body fat.

Behind their professional self-assurance, Elinor Lipman's characters question and fear, search and yearn for that most elusive of commodities of all—love.

Editorial Reviews

Into Love and Out Again is an afternoon delight. Breezy, wry with just a shade of sex...a warm, playful, curl-up-and-read volume that’s over all too soon.” Ft. Worth Star-Telegram
“Lipman’s short stories are filled with sweet, complex people in unusual relationships…The stories, charming in a finely etched way, contain some wry, delightful twists of plot and oblique, often painful, dialogue.” Library Journal
