Lightless

Summary

A vast epic in a haunting and unforgettable world, Lightless is the first volume of a new classic unfolding before our eyes, perfect for readers of Justin Cronin and Jay Kristoff.

In the world of Moreth, the sun doesn’t set for forty years—and when it sets, it doesn’t rise for forty more. The night is a wasteland of death. To stay ahead of it and reach the safety of dawn, kingdoms must cross the burning Lance of Noon, which can only be done by ingesting sear, a substance produced by giant sunworms.

But sear stopped showing up many years ago. No one knows why—and the supply is all but gone.

Captain Marten of Darmand, one of the Nine Kingdoms that control the sear, has hunted the answer for years. When his search ends in disaster, he is banished. In exile, Marten recruits a team of disgraced but brilliant adepts: Wynd, a mapper, Evyn, a scholar, and Rack, a sorcerous caller. He scatters them across the world in a last desperate effort to find what’s gone wrong. They each discover hints that the loss of sear is no accident. If it can’t be brought back, the world is about to tip into permanent barbarism. And Marten’s band of outcasts may be Moreth’s last hope …
