The Betrayed: A Novel

Summary

In the next thrilling installment of Linda Castillo's Edgar-Award winning series, Chief-of-Police Kate Burkholder investigates a string of targeted attacks on a beloved Amish wife and mother.

When Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is called to the scene of a hit-and-run involving two Amish women that leaves one dead and the other injured, she feels that something about the tragedy doesn't quite add up. Three weeks later, her hunch is proven correct after the survivor of the "accident" is attacked again—and this time, the killer has escalated his means of violence. Kate knows this can't be a coincidence, and suspects this young Amish woman is being targeted, but why?

As the investigation intensifies, Kate realizes she may be dealing with a sophisticated individual—someone who has committed violent crimes before and knows how to cover their tracks. But what would a seasoned criminal have against an unassuming Amish wife and mother of three? Kate digs deeper and soon realizes that there's more to this case than meets the eye. As the attacks become increasingly deadly, Kate must work quickly not only to save this innocent young woman, but the lives of everyone close to her.
