Summary

Four orphaned siblings, determined to stay together as a family, decide to inhabit an abandoned boxcar and turn it into their new home in the woods. When one of the siblings falls ill, the others go out to seek a doctor to save their sister. Author Bio: Gertrude Chandler Warner

Gertrude Warner (1890–1979) was born in Putnam, Connecticut. From the age of five, she dreamed of becoming an author. She wrote stories for her grandfather and each Christmas she gave him one as a gift. She went on to be a teacher for more than thirty years and was inspired to write easy and fun-to-read books for children in a time when there were few. Warner is best remembered as the author of the Boxcar Children mysteries.
