In his first case since he left the LAPD's Open Unsolved Unit for the prestigious Homicide Special squad, Harry Bosch is called out to investigate a murder that may have chilling consequences for
national security. A doctor with access to a dangerous radioactive substance is found murdered in the trunk of his car. Retracing his steps, Harry learns that a large quantity of radioactive cesium
was stolen shortly before the doctor's death. With the cesium in unknown hands, Harry fears the murder could be part of a terrorist plot to poison a major American city. Soon, Bosch is in a race
against time, not only against the culprits, but also against the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI (in the form of Harry's one-time lover Rachel Walling), who are convinced that this
case is too important for the likes of the LAPD. It is Bosch's job to prove all of them wrong.

Editorial Reviews
“Even though this book started as a serial—originally appearing in sixteen installments in the New York Times Magazine—Connelly has molded it into a crisply written, smooth-flowing, and gripping mystery.” —Forbes
“A short and sweet crime novel.”
—Independent (London)
“Connelly, once again, has hit a home run. He does it quietly and without any pyrotechnics. He makes it look deceptively easy.”
—Denver Post
“The novel succeeds in maintaining Connelly’s trademark fast-paced action, plot twists, suspense, and spare, humorous writing…For followers of Harry Bosch, The Overlook is a worthy addition.” —Bookmarks Magazine
“The scramble to investigate threats to national security, justified or otherwise, is a timely subject and one on which Connelly puts a brilliant new spin.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Cariou catches all the strength and sadness behind Bosch’s minimal dialogue and is also perfect as Harry’s LAPD colleagues, female and male…All praise to [audio publisher] Hachette for getting Cariou…The production boasts original music by Frank Morgan.” —Publishers Weekly (starred audio review)
“By now, most listeners will agree that Len Cariou is Harry Bosch…Cariou handles all his characters with aplomb, and Bosch with the gruff preciseness listeners have come to expect. An AudioFile Best Audiobook of 2007.” —AudioFile
“Connelly delivers a masterly piece of cotemporary fiction that goes beyond the average police procedural. Connelly’s novels are quite simply only getting better with age; the banter of the murder investigation is smart and the action taut. This sixth narraton of a Bosch mystery by Len Cariou is excellent and brings the characters to life. Highly recommended.” —Library Journal (audio review)
“Harry Bosch finally catches a fresh case after years of resurrecting old ones, and it’s a honey…A beautifully stripped-down case that makes up in tension and velocity what it lacks in amplitude. Serialization hasn’t hurt Connelly any more than it did Charles Dickens, who’s cited at several key points.” —Kirkus Reviews
