Summary

Summary

When Memories Remain is the remarkable conclusion to the bestselling memoir, Where Children Run, the story of David and Dennis Pischke who survived more than a decade of abuse at the hands of their violently unstable stepfather.

By the time the twins turned fifteen years old they'd left the isolated farm where they grew up and struck out on their own. This is the heartfelt and often humorous story of two disadvantaged teenagers who matured into upstanding citizens despite the odds. But returning to their home town with families of their own meant facing their demons—both real and imagined. Within these pages lies the answer to the burning question of what became of the twins and what possessed them at mid-life to speak publicly about their childhood suffering; their fight for redemption, and the ramifications of publishing a tell-all memoir. When Memories Remain is an exploration of the lasting effects of abuse and prejudice, of breaking the insidious cycle, and in the end, about how love and forgiveness can help us let go of a painful past and find true happiness.

Author Bio: Karen Emilson

Author Bio: Karen Emilson Karen Emilson was born and raised in southern Ontario, the daughter of Irish immigrants on her mothe's side; and an eclectic mix of Swiss, German, and English on her father's side. She spent all her free time as a child reading books and writing stories, dreaming one day of becoming a writer. In 1982 she came to Manitoba as a young bride, settling in at the Nordheim farm in Siglunes. She started working as a rural newspaper reporter and published the Canadian Bestseller, Where Children Run in 1996 and its sequel When Memories Remain in 2001. When Lake Manitoba overflowed its banks in 2011, flooding out the farmland at Siglunes, she was inspired to finish a story started 10 years earlier about the immigrants who carved out a living there. Now she writes books full time and lives in Grunthal, Manitoba with her husband and little dog Scooter. Be Still the Water is her first novel.
